My sweetie was cruising along behind Dan and me and saw two bikes for sale in Maiden Rock, Wi. A matched set of Honda HawkGTs also known as the NT650. The price was right and she thought they were cool looking and I lusted after one when they first came out so we bought ‘em. These things are so fun. Look, Flick, Gaaahh. Little, light, low power bikes have their place and it appears for at least two of them it’s our garage when not being thrashed on the alphabet.

Now I know, it does in about twelve hundred miles of mixed riding it has gone from an almost new Pirelli Diablo to almost junk. Oops. I’m going to blame it on our friend Dan. He’s really quite the rider and I have to work the throttle pretty hard to actually lead the rides we go on.

There is sand at the turn in points, there is sand at the proper apex, there is sand everywhere. My suggestion tippy toe through the first time to check the conditions. On the plus side in Pierce county the roads are much better. CR A is clear as are SS, UU and O.

I agreed to join him. (Here comes that feeling.) I’ll be riding about 4 hours behind them. First, because I don’t want to be a part of this and second, because I’ll catch up with them in about 8 seconds.

They’re playing at The Myth nightclub. This will be my second visit there this summer. The bathroom sinks have hot and cold running Red Bull.

Please G-d, don’t let me die on this ride and if I do, cover for me and say I was somewhere else.

P.S. What *is* a Queensryche anyways?

Mark also plans to give us some videos to post, so keep an eye out for great twistie footage. See if you can figure out what kind of bike the camera is on. I’m guessing a Ducati, but I haven’t check with Mark yet.

I came to Wisconsin and decided I wanted an old toaster BMW. I found out about a BMW club who hung out in Hudson on Saturday mornings and approached them. They were wary, but finally gave me a name: Walter.

Walter has a huge garage. I believe it is smaller than his home. The front is filled with bikes, some in dusty disrepair, like the 850T with the seized engine and then the bright yellow Ducati. Eureka! This old guy and his wife Elaine became our lifelong friends. After tooling around on the Honda Dream my sweetheart had procured from yet another toaster owner in Hudson, I knew I was ready to step up to the 500. I just wasn’t ready to leave the vintage class. Not yet. I ended up selling her right back to Walter when I bought my own Ducati a few years later. And just like Walter, we can’t even park our cars in our own sizable garage–just too many bikes.
